HIGH END SPEAKER
Concept 500 steps away from the rest of Q Acoustic’s budget focused line up showcasing the company’s move into a more full-range loudspeaker supplier. Manufactured from the ground up, the sleek speaker is developed to enhance performance and in particular, the cabinets have received some substantial improvements.
DUAL GELCORE
The cabinets benefit from Dual Gelcore which sandwiches each MDF layer with a flexible gel that absorbs vibrations and turns them into heat. This is a technology similar to that used in the award winning Concept 20 and 40 speakers but with three layers of MDF, instead of two for improved effectiveness.
Combined with stiffer Point to Point bracing, it reduces unwanted cabinet noise by 30dB, improving stereo image and reducing colouration which results in more natural performances.
DRIVER UNITS
There are two low-distortion 16.5cm mid/bass units that sit in a newly designed rubber surround and offer ample power, despite fairly small sizes, thanks to a large 35mm glass-fibre voice coil.
The mechanically decoupled 28mm soft-dome tweeter is mounted in its own rubber gasket to isolate vibrations and a good off-axis response gives a considerably wider sweet spot. The high-frequency response can be tweaked by +/- 0.5dB to suit any room or taste.
PREMIUM COMPONENTS
Helmholtz Pressure Equalisers balance the pressure variances that affect tall loudspeaker cabinets for better sound purity while the classy aluminium plinth ensures minimal acoustic reflection. A Linkwitz-Riley crossover comprises a Mundorf Supreme polypropylene capacitor in the tweeter feed paired with a large 10x10cm Mundorf air-core inductor mounted in the base of the speaker.
CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
The front of the Concept 500 has a clean and contemporary look that matches Q Acoustic’s other floorstanders and is available in the standard gloss white or black.
A wooden veneer section mounted to the back, rosewood for the black or light oak for the white, gives the bi-wireable speakers a stylish finish distinguishing it from the company’s more affordable line-up.
