DYNAUDIO EVOKE 50

Evoke 50 is a full three-way floor stander with a 28mm soft-dome tweeter, a 15cm neodymium midrange and dual 18cm woofers.

Newest Cerotar tweeter

Evoke 50 has the latest tweeter from Dynaudio: Cerotar. It’s a brand new, ground-up design that utilizes key technologies from the award-winning 40th anniversary tweeter, the great new Contour series and the new Confidence top of the line series. Our engineers are very proud of it. They should be like that too.

Just below the precision-coated dome is an inner dome:  This ingenious device is located so close to the back of the diaphragm that it stops unwanted resonant frequencies that bounce off the back of the playing surface. It smooths the frequency response for clearer, cleaner, softer highs – which means more detail, and more of that “hey, I don’t remember a triangle in this piece of music!” -Moments.

The Cerotar is powered by a brand new strontium carbonate + ceramic magnet system. That gives it more sensitivity, which, in musical terms, simply translates to ‘honesty’. You hear exactly what you hear. And because it’s so smooth and natural, you can listen for hours without getting tired.

Big Sound

At the bottom of the bottom there are two 18 cm Esotec + woofers. Like the Cerotar tweeter, they use trickle-down technology from the Contour and Confidence families to bring as much of that high-end DNA to Evoke as possible.

The woofers are made from our own patented material, MSP (Magnesium Silicate Polymer). We have been using it in our drivers for decades and we have not been able to find a better material that offers a better balance between lightness, stiffness and damping.

But while the Evoke 20 stand-mount speaker uses aluminum in its 18cm woofer, Evoke 50 uses copper. That’s because these are pure bass drivers – they don’t need nimble agility from a special midrange unit, so we were able to give them more moving mass. However, the 0.4mm aperture is the same, as is the + ceramic magnet. That means strength and detail. It is just one of the solutions created through extensive analysis and simulation in our Jupiter measurement facility.

Each speaker cone is made from a single piece of MSP. This makes them just the right amount of rigid – and means far less physical distortion while playing. It also gives a super-solid physical connection to the fiberglass voice coil former on the back (it’s glued directly under the Balance Ribs you see around the center), meaning more of the coil’s kinetic energy is transferred to the diaphragm.

spiders keep everything centered and moving as they should, while the new Contour-derived surround allows a longer throw ratio for more punch.

And for extra versatility – the basses can be tuned off by fitting the bass ports with two-piece foam plugs. They offer three tuning levels: fully open, semi-open and fully closed, allowing you to adjust the bass performance of the speakers according to their position and your room.

Dedicated Mid range

Evoke 50 is the only speaker in the family with a dedicated midrange driver, so the engineers at Dynaudio Labs have decided to make it a little bit special. The 15cm unit they chose is directly derived from the advanced Contour range – meaning a powerful neodymium magnet, a 0.4mm-thin diaphragm and a fiberglass voice coil former with a trademark Dynaudio aluminum voice coil.

Why neodymium and not the + of the woofers? Because it is light and powerful. Why aluminum and not copper? Again, because it’s light (and we can do more turns in the voice coil for a given weight). That’s a combination that gives our team great control over how the driver reacts – they were able to fine-tune it to integrate perfectly with the woofers and tweeter.

In fact, the Evoke team did so well that you basically get Contour level performance from this midrange driver.

Simple, honest style

Creating such a large speaker without appearing bulky and boxy is no easy feat – but chief designer Louise took up the challenge. And then she knocked it out of the park. Evoke 50 was the first in the series to focus on paper (and then a 3D modeling program, a clay model, a full MDF prototype, and finally The Real Thing).

Louise and her team were adamant that Evoke 50 had to be realistic for real homes and real lives. They were inspired by furniture designers, showcases with interior design, show houses and even around lifelike homes to get the look just right.
